If you?re reading this you know that infamous (former) attorney Jack Thompson, the anti-videogame crusader, has been permanently disbarred. Since the news broke there?s been a euphoric rush of excitement in the videogame community over his perceived banishment, and a heated debate as to who?s responsible for creating such an awful oppositional force. Some seem to think that his disbarment has brought about some significant change, but from my view things could potentially be the same.
I?m not privy to his personal or financial situation, plans for or true outlook on life, but as long as this man's alive he?s free to be a thorn in the industries? side. It?s as simple as that, if he chooses to continue this futile crusade it will go on. Luckily, in the years since his failed attempts to crash the scene he transitioned from a legitimate threat to a sad parody. His disbarment will likely help peel away the veil to show who he really is to individuals and the media that he?s constantly tried to manipulate with a certain measure of success. But make no mistake about it; while the disbarment is an unavoidable black eye, it?s not insurmountable for such a crafty player.
Have no pity on him for this very public humiliation and loss of livelihood. And cast aside any doubt that he wouldn?t give your hardships a second thought. This man has wasted time and money swatting at imaginary flies. He?s wasted our time and our tax dollars fighting his war of attrition, and I wish he was ordered to pay it all back, which is probably impossible.
So who?s to blame for creating Thompson? Maybe this faux-moralist created and destroyed himself, or maybe we can blame videogames for his inexcusable and unprofessional conduct. Yeah, the videogames made him do it.
